a gifted musician, conductor, arranger, etc, and worked for the BBC, based in Cardiff, where in particular she was involved with the popular radio variety show, “Welsh Rarebit” for which she composed the well known song, “We’ll Keep a Welcome in the Hillside “in 1940.

 

Taking part in the ceremony was Harry Polloway, a local, well known Toastmaster, who conducted the proceedings, entertainers Wyn Calvin and Stan Stennett and the High Sheriff.

 

The choir was requested to attend a give a rendition of We’ll Keep a Welcome, which the choir readily agreed to and sang with great gusto!

 

 

Tribute to Mai Jones.

 

On Friday, 7th May, 2010, the choir assembled at a house in

St Marks Crescent, Newport,

for the unveiling of a commemorative plaque marking the home of Mai Jones, on the 50th anniversary of her death.
